Fall In Lake Louise And Banff

Come to the land of majestic mountain scenery, rugged terrain, sun-bathed meadows and endless rivers. Canoeing, golfing, skiing, hiking, fishing, cycling, horseback riding, canyon walks, a ride the Friendly Giant sightseeing lift to a pristine mountain top…it’s impossible to do it all in one visit! The area is as rich in wilderness as it is in history.

At Lake Louise Inn we’re surrounded by natural wonders that provide endless activities. At the end of the day, come “home” to relax at the Lake Louise Inn. Enjoy fresh scones and baked goods at our Tea Cottage. Unwind in our pool, whirlpools or steam room. Enjoy a western barbeque at the Gazebo, pizza or pasta at the Timberwolf Café, fine dining in the Legends Restaurant, or a drink in our cozy Explorers Lounge.

Sightseeing/Canoeing/Horseback Riding

Don’t miss Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Canoeing is available at both lakes, and horseback riding (see Timberline Tours and Brewster Adventures)

Hiking

Hiking trails around the Lake Louise area are plentiful. There are more than 150 kilometres of hiking trails you can access right from the Lake Louise Inn! From Lake Louise Inn you can hike to two tea houses, one at Lake Agnes and one at the Plain of Six Glaciers. Pick up a self-guided walking tour map in the hotel lobby, highlighting the historic buildings in the area. For guided hikes, try Great Divide Nature Interpretation.

Fishing

Many lakes in the area are great for fishing. Permits are required. Fishing tours and guides will help you find that special fish that “didn’t get away.”

Cycling

The Icefields Parkway is world-renowned among cycling enthusiasts. There are also many nearby biking trails. Banff National Park’s cycling guide and map includes several mountain biking trails and road rides.   

Shopping

Need a last-minute souvenir? The Samson Mall, a five-minute walk from the Lake Louise Inn, has a great selection. Located along the Pipestone River, the mall includes the Lake Louise Visitor Centre, Wilson Mountain Sports, the Village Market, Sweets and Treats, Bow River Trading, Laggan’s Bakery & Deli, Trailhead Deli, B & G Bar and Grill and Restaurant, the Liquor Store, Northern Art Impressions, and The Depot

Mountain Escape Program

Established 31 years ago, the Mountain Escape Program by Lake Louise Inn is a program of outdoor fitness, yoga and mountain hiking all wrapped up in a resort getaway for women

Choose from 2 or 5 day programs and customize from there. Kick-start a fitness program and sculpt and tone, or come for relaxation and inner peace. Everyone comes for the outdoors and good friends. Visit the Mountain Escape site for more information & program dates.

Scenic Drives

Scenic Drive: Yoho National Park

To the west of us in Yoho National Park you’ll find the Spiral Tunnels, which accommodate the change in elevation of the railway between Lake Louise and Field, B.C.  Read about this amazing engineering feat. Next stop: Takakkaw Falls, one of Canada’s highest waterfalls. It’s on Yoho Valley Road near the Spiral Tunnels. Farther west along the TransCanada Highway, past the village of Field, is the turn-off for the Natural Bridge and Emerald Lake.

Scenic Drive: Icefields Parkway

The Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park is a photographer’s dream with Bow Lake, Num-Ti-Jah Lodge, Crowfoot Glacier, the Weeping Wall, Columbia Icefields, Stutfield Glacier, Sunwapta Falls and many other wondrous sights to view on the way to Jasper. Scenic Drive: Banff National Park

The Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) route to Banff National Park is dotted with many viewpoints and scenic pleasures. Stop for photo ops at Morant’s Curve, Castle Mountain Viewpoint and Johnston Canyon. Banff also is home to the Banff Gondola, Upper Hot Springs, Fairmont Banff Springs, Vermillion Lakes and Mount Rundle with Lake Minnewanka a short distance away. Extreme Adventures

You don’t have to go far for Rocky Mountain thrills. White water rafting, zipline and ATV adventures are nearby. From mid-May to mid-September Wild Water Adventures offers both half-day and full-day packages along the Kicking Horse River in Yoho National Park.
